Current Committee/Board Vacancies

St. Johns County is currently accepting applications for the following volunteer Board and Committee vacancies. Please call 904.209.0300 for more information or to obtain an application. The deadline for application submission is October 31, 2014.

Architectural Review Committee
Purpose of Committee: Ensure enhanced property development while maintaining and encouraging quality character of design within the Ponte Vedra and Ponte Vedra/Palm Valley Overlay Districts in line with the goals and objectives of the St. Johns County Comprehensive Plan.

Qualifications: The ARC shall consist of five members, and two alternates, three of whom possess, through professional training or experience, competence in the fields of architecture, design, planning, landscape architecture, or other relevant expertise. At least two members shall reside within the Ponte Vedra Zoning District, and the PVZAB may recommend these appointments to the Board of County Commissioners. At least two members shall reside within District 4, but outside of the Ponte Vedra Zoning District, and at least one member shall be a registered architect in the State of Florida, or a retired architect formerly registered in the State of Florida.

Meeting Schedule: This committee meets every fourth Wednesday of each month from 5 to 8:30 p.m. in the Ponte Vedra Beach Branch Library.

Contractors Review Board
Purpose of Committee: Ensure proper administration of contractor licensing and discipline of licensees.

Qualifications: Must be a resident of St. Johns County for at least two years prior to appointment. Seeking licensed electrician and a consumer representative who may be any resident of the local jurisdiction who is not, and has never been, a member or practitioner of a profession regulated by the board or a member of any closely related profession.

Meeting Schedule: This Board meets every fourth Thursday of each month at 5 p.m. in the County Auditorium, 500 San Sebastian View.

Health & Human Services Advisory Council
Purpose of Committee: This Council evaluates human services programs in the community, assists in determining the effectiveness of programs, reduces duplication of services and assures the health and human services needs of the residents of St. Johns County are met. They review applications requesting county funding for programs that provide health, mental health, substance abuse, and social services and submit recommendations to the Board of County Commissioners.

Qualifications: Members must be a registered voter in St. Johns County. The current vacancy is an At-Large member. The Council consists of five professionals, preferably from the disciplines of Health, Mental Health, Substance Abuse, or Social Services, and two At-Large members from areas such as business, banking and finance, education, law enforcement, religious community leaders, consumers, and any other interested parties comprising the general public.

Meeting Schedule: This Board meets on-call as needed during application review period and on the third Thursday of each month at 4:30 p.m. in the Health and Human Services Conference Room, 1955 US 1 South.

Mid-Anastasia Island Design Review Board
Purpose of Committee: Determine compliance with Part 3.08.07–3.08.09 of the Land Development Code regarding signage requirements, design review guidelines, and design elements/materials within the Mid-Anastasia Overlay District.

Qualifications: The Design Review Board shall consist of five members and two alternates. Appointees to the Design Review Board shall be qualified through the demonstration of special interest, experience, or education in design, architecture, or history of the Mid-Anastasia community. Members shall reside within the Mid-Anastasia Overlay District. Members shall be appointed to four year terms.

Meeting Schedule: This Board meets the second Thursday of every month at 3 p.m. in the County Permit Center.

North Coastal Corridor Overlay District Design Review Board
Purpose of Committee: Enhance property development while maintaining and encouraging quality character of design within the North Coastal Overlay District and Vilano Beach Town Center with the intent of accomplishing the goals and objectives of the St. Johns County Comprehensive Plan.

Qualifications: Appointees to the Design Review Board shall be qualified through the demonstration of special interest, experience, or education in design, architecture, or history of the North Coastal Overlay community of the area encompassing the North Coastal Corridor Overlay District. At least one member is required to be a registered architect, unless, there are no applicants with these qualifications after a reasonable search. At least one member will be required to have expertise in historic preservation and/or the architectural history of Florida, unless, there are no applicants with these qualifications after a reasonable search. At least one member will own an active business within the District, and at least two members must live in or within one mile of the North Coastal District. Members shall be appointed to four year terms.

Meeting Schedule: This Board meets the second Wednesday of each month at 4:00 p.m. in the County Permit Center.

Northwest Communication Tower Advisory Board
Purpose of Committee: Review proposals for expenditure of income derived from the lease of Mills Field property.

Qualifications: Must reside in the portion of St. Johns County bounded on the east by the westerly right-of-way of I-95; bounded on the south by the northerly right-of-way of CR 210 (from I-95 to Greenbrier Road and its westerly extension (to the westerly boundary of St. Johns County); bounded on the west and north by the County line. Members will represent a demonstrated interest in passive recreation, an athletic association and a resident from district 1.

Meeting Schedule: This Board meets semi-annually in the evenings in the Mills Field Office on Racetrack Road.

South Anastasia Design Review Board
Purpose of Committee: Develop submittal requirements and review procedures in accordance with Sections 3.07.04-3.07.14 of the Land Development Code to determine compliance in regards to development standards and criteria, minimum yard requirements, buffers, fences and walls, parking, signage, landscape criteria, architectural design standards, design elements and materials, and lighting criteria.

Qualifications: The DRB shall consist of five members and two alternates. Appointees to the Design Review Board shall be qualified through the demonstration of special interest, experience, or education in design, architecture or history of the South Anastasia community. Members shall reside within the South Anastasia Overlay District. Members shall be appointed to four year terms.

Meeting Schedule: This Board meets the fourth Thursday of each month at 3:00 p.m. in the County Permits Center.

West Augustine Nuisance Abatement Board
Purpose of Committee: To conduct hearings regarding complaints of public nuisance within the West Augustine CRA. Also, promote, protect, and improve the health, safety and welfare of the citizens and businesses within the West Augustine Community Revitalization Area (CRA).

Qualifications: County resident for at least one year, 18 years or older, residing within or operating a business within the West Augustine CRA.

Meeting Schedule: This board meets quarterly.
