St. Johns County is currently accepting applications for the following volunteer Board and Committee vacancies. Please call (904) 209-0300 for more information or to obtain an application.

Architectural Review Committee (3 Regular Members and 2 Alternate)
Purpose of Committee: To ensure enhanced property development while maintaining and encouraging quality character of design within the Ponte Vedra and Ponte Vedra /Palm Valley Overlay Districts in line with the goals and objectives of the St. Johns County Comprehensive Plan.
Qualifications:

  • Must be a registered voter in St Johns County.
  • Seeking applicants competent in the fields of architecture, design, planning, landscape architecture or other relevant expertise who would also need to fill the below requirements.
  • Seeking applicants who reside in the Ponte Vedra Zoning District

-OR-

  • Seeking applicants who reside in District 4, but outside of the Ponte Vedra Zoning District.

Term: Regular members as well as alternates serve a term of four (4) years.
Meeting Schedule: This committee meets every fourth Wednesday of each month from 5:00 to 8:30 p.m. in the Ponte Vedra Beach Branch Library.

Housing Finance Authority (2)
Purpose of Committee: To increase the supply of affordable housing opportunities through tax-exempt and taxable bonds and other available program resources.
Qualifications:

  • Seeking applicants with experience in commerce, labor, or finance.
  • Prefer Representatives from District 1 or 3.
  • Applicants must be a registered voter in St. Johns County.
  • Members must file financial disclosure with the Supervisor of Elections office.

Meeting schedule: This Authority meets the 4th Thursday of each month at 3:00 p.m. in the Health and Human Services Building, Kingfisher Conference Room, 200 San Sebastian View St. Augustine, FL  32084. Members serve a four (4) year term.

Recreation Advisory Board (2 Regular)
Purpose of Committee: An advisory committee that provides new ideas and assists in solving community recreation problems to help ensure leisure time programs and facilities for residents of St. Johns County. The Recreation Advisory Boards primary responsibility is to serve in an advisory capacity to the Board of County Commissioners.
Qualifications:

  • Must be a resident of St. Johns County.
  • Seeking representation from District 3.

Term: Members serve a term of four (4) years.
Meeting Schedule: This Board meets on the 2nd Thursday of each month at 3:00 PM in the BOCC Executive Board Conference Room, County Administration Building, 500 San Sebastian View.

Mid - Anastasia Design Review Board (5 Regular and 2 Alternate) (7)
Purpose of Committee: The purpose of the Mid-Anastasia Design Review Board is to protect natural resources, maintain and enhance the diverse and unique character of the Mid-Anastasia Overlay District and achieve specific goals and objective of the St. Johns County Comprehensive Plan. The Design Review Board's (DRB) primary responsibility is to determine compliance with Part 3.08.00 Mid-Anastasia Overlay District of the St. Johns County Land Development Code, Ordinance 99-51, as amended.
Qualifications: Must be a St. Johns County resident demonstrating interest in the history and design of the Anastasia Community. Appointees to the Design Review Board shall be qualified through the demonstration of special interest, experience or education in design, architecture or history of the Mid- Anastasia community.

  • Seeking applicants residing within the Overlay District, on Anastasia Island and north of Weff Road and Satsuma Avenue.
  • Members are required to file a financial disclosure with the Supervisor of Elections.

Term: Regular members as well as alternates serve a term of four (4) years.
Meeting Schedule: This Board meets the second Thursday of every month at 3:00pm in the County Permit Center, 4040 Lewis Speedway.

South Anastasia Design Review Board (2 Members and 2 Alternates)
Purpose of Committee: The purpose of the South Anastasia Design Review Board is to protect and preserve the "Old Florida" style, rural beach community in the South Anastasia Overlay District and achieve specific goals and objective of the St. Johns County Comprehensive Plan. The Design Review Board's (DRB) primary responsibility is to determine compliance with Part 3.07.00 South Anastasia Overlay of the St. Johns County Land Development Code, Ordinance 99-51, as amended.
Qualifications:

  • Must be a St. Johns County resident who has shown an interest in the history and design of the Anastasia Community.
  • Prefer at least one regular member who owns or operates an active business with a physical presence within the District and meet the Membership Area overlay residency requirements.  In the event there are no qualified applicants for this position, an applicant that meets the Membership Area overlay residency requirements may be appointed.
  • All other members shall meet the Membership Area overlay residency requirements which are to reside on Anastasia Island south of Dondanville Road.
  • Members are required to file a financial disclosure with the Supervisor of Elections.

Term: All members shall serve a term of four (4) years.

Cultural Resource Review Board (1 Regular Member)
Purpose of Committee: Advise the Board of County Commissioners regarding cultural, architectural, archaeological, and historical resources of St. Johns County; and to identify, evaluate, document, designate, and protect these resources.
Qualifications:

  • Seeking applicants qualified through the demonstration of special interest, experience, or education in the preservation of the County's cultural resources. Members shall, when possible, have practical and professional experience in one or more of the following fields: archaeology, architecture or architectural history, curation or conservation, planning, professional engineering, real estate, history, historic preservation, or related disciplines.
  • Prefer Representatives from District 1 or 2.
  • Members are required to file a financial disclosure with the Supervisor of Elections.

Term: Members serve a term of four (4) years.
Meeting Schedule: This Board meets the first Monday of every other month at 3:30 p.m. in Executive Board Room at the St. Johns County Administrative Complex located at 500 San Sebastian View, St. Augustine Florida.

Affordable Housing Advisory Committee (3 Regular Members)
Purpose of Committee: To review established policies and procedures, ordinances, land development regulations, and adopted local government comprehensive plan and recommend specific action or initiatives to encourage or facilitate affordable housing while protecting the ability of the property to appreciate in value.
Qualifications:

  • Seeking St. Johns County resident who represents Essential Service Personnel, which means any person in need of affordable housing, who is a permanent employee (excluding temporary and on-call employees) of a company or organization located within St. Johns County, including teachers and educators, police and fire personnel, health care personnel and skilled building trades personnel.
  • Seeking St. Johns County Resident who represents employers within St Johns County.
  • Seeking St Johns County Resident engaged in Residential Home Building.

Term: Members serve a term of four (4) years.
Meeting Schedule: This Committee meets on the 3rd Wednesday of each month.

Value Adjustment Board (1)
Purpose of Committee: To hear petitions relating to assessments filed, complaints relating to homestead exemptions, appeals from exemptions denied or disputes arising from exemptions granted, and appeals concerning ad valorem tax deferrals and classifications.
Qualifications: Must be a citizen owning homestead property within St. Johns County. The citizen member appointed may not be a member or employee of any taxing authority, and may not be a person who represents property owners in any administrative or judicial review of property taxes.
Meeting schedule: This Board meets on an as needed basis up to four or five times a year in the County Auditorium, 500 San Sebastian View.
